I can't emphasize enough what a terrible place East Coast is to do business with. Early Summer 2010, I took ownership of a brand new, but leftover Monterey boat. They were a dealership and the owner, Bryan, told me all about how wonderful their service department is, and how you need to buy your boat from a place with a real shop, rather than a 'fly by night' operation where you won't be able to get service. Well, upon taking ownership of my boat, there was immediately a problem with how the boat ran. It sputtered on acceleration. Well, a call was placed to East Coast and I was assured that the engine was still breaking in and that I should wait a little while and see if it worked itself out. Well, it didn't, but I dealt with it that summer. Then, winter came and I was told that the boat would need to be run to be checked out, and since things were frozen the spring would be a better time to deal with the issues. Spring came and I placed a call and was told I could drop it off whenever was convenient for me. I did, and also wanted them to address a structural problem with the windshield. Well, a week later I get a call telling me that they were no longer a Monterey dealership, and that Monterey wanted me to take the windshield issue to another current dealership. They also informed me that Volvo (the engine manuf. for my boat) denied the claim on the motor as it was probably a result of bad/old fuel. Well, I was upset, contacted Bryan and he responded in a rude fashion, and informed me that 'if they weren't going to get paid to do the work, they weren't going to do it for free, and that my issue was with the manufacturer'. Not the response I would expect from the guy I thought I knew. So, I picked up my boat (a 2 hour trip each way, and a tank of gas to drop it off and another to pick it up). I spoke to the Monterey dealership here in New Jersey and they contacted Monterey and are going to fix the windshield under warranty. However, they aren't a Volvo dealership, so I'd have to go elsewhere to deal with the engine issue. I also put out a call to Volvo, as Bryan had put it, 'my issue was with them'. Volvo informed me that, because the boat was a leftover, it's probably a gummed up carb and that the dealer should have handled it for me. That dealership was East Coast. They didn't deal with it. I put in a call to Monterey and heard back from them. The first time they even heard about my issues were from the dealership that is going to do the work. East Coast Marine lied to me and told me they contacted Monterey and were denied the warranty claim, when in fact they just blew me off. The guy from Monterey knew both Bryan and Zack (service manager) by name, and said they both had his cell phone number and they could have called them at any time. So, as far as I can tell, East Coast sold me a boat to get it off their floor and then lied to me and refused to fix problems that were there from day one. And I'm out time and money from the whole ordeal. I cannot express my disappointment with East Coast Marine enough. If it were possible to give them negative stars, I would do so.
