J. Christopher Kovats-Bernat, PhD

Full disclosure: Jimmy has been my barber for over 10 years, and he and his wife Rose are beautiful people who treat me like family. But in all honesty, these are the best barbers in the business, end of conversation. Sit in any chair - Jimmy's, Zack's, Tristan's, and all the others, and you'll get the best, neatest most professional, stylish cut as well as good 'ol fashioned barbershop banter and fellowship. Jimmy is fantastic, his wife Rose is a peach, and Tristan and Zach give the best fade cuts you'll ever see. They offer old fashioned straight razor shaves for a few bucks, and all men's cuts end with a satisfying straight razor cleanup of your neck. The place is efficient (you might wait a max of 15 minutes to be seated at a chair even when it's busy). Meticulously clean, cabinets filled with antique and vintage barbershop items, all the barber chairs are vintage from the 1930s to the 60s which is very cool. And most of all, the place has class. Family-friendly, music not too loud (and he's got some seriously cool jazz and R&B programmed on the Sirius XM channels). Above all, a basic men's cut is a mere $15 (tip your barber the full $20, because you're walking out with a haircut that would run you at least $50 in any big city). And women: sit on down with Jimmy or Rose - Jimmy used to cut women's hair in a beauty shop back in the day, and lots of women come in for their treatments and cuts by Rose and some other top-notch friendly stylists. Jimmy's is the kind of prosperous, unpretentious, family-owned and operated small business that holds up the Allentown economy. Above all, Jimmy is good people. And he only hires pros with hearts as big as his. Give the place a try - you'll never want to go anywhere else ever again. Also check out his downtown location on 619 Hamilton - same pros rotate shifts between shops. ☆☆☆☆☆
