I saw Dr. S at Alpha Dermatology. He was formerly at the Women's College Hospital about a longstanding case of either chronic or acute telogen effluvium. I found him to be a nice and kind, soft-spoken, and very knowledgeable dermatalogical specialist in the area of hair loss. We conversed in depth and he spoke to me about possible causes for my condition, examined my scalp, requested a battery of blood tests to be done (some of which I had never had done before), and gave me his recommendations. His opinion was that this particular condition is not readily treatable as it has multiple possible causes which therefore requires a trial and error approach and may ultimately be due to reasons that are "hard to quantify and treat". Not withstanding this opinion he gave me some good suggestions to try in terms of supplements and topical solutions. Unfortunately, at the time of my appointment Dr. Donovan was permanently moving back to New Hope and so I will not be able to follow-up with him on an ongoing basis. I did find his nurse Caroline to be extremely attentive and kind in his absence.
I highly recommend Dr. S to all who are struggling to find answers and solutions for their hair loss. You will find that he is extremely thorough in his inquiry questioning and evaluations and will take your issues seriously. I lived for several years with no concern ("it's only hair") from my family doctors and similar attitude from my dermatologist ("we all get older"). Dr. S diagnosed me with frontal fibrosing alopecia and estimated based on all the timing of everything that this ordeal started at least five and possibly eight years back. He spent nearly 40 minutes going over the diagnosis and treatment and just helping me understand how I can take action. He is a very educated man but more than this he has a unique understanding of the human spirit. I cried some and laughed some and left his office with a feeling of relief to finally have answers to something that has occupied my mind daily for a long time now. I highly recommend him.
