I'm a slightly-snobby suburban perennial and shrub customer, and I do all my own landscaping and gardening. I visited Sestili unannounced on a weekday off, as I do every garden center. The place is tucked back in the residential streets of the southeast end of Pittsburgh's Oakland neighborhood, skirting the bluff overlooking Panther Hollow. One-way streets and neighborhood traffic make it a bit hard to get back to from Blvd of the Allies. Furthermore, there are only a few hodgepodge parking spaces along a sharp right bend in the road, where the entrance is located. The first thing you see is an old ratty-looking house that main shop appears to be attached to, like some kind of weird compound. As I walked in, the place was eerily silent and looked unkempt and nearly abandoned. There was mud and weeds everywhere. They didn't appear to have many (if any) new shrubs or perennials, and most "stock" looked like it had been overwintered and nearly neglected, with weeds growing in pots. I didn't really see prices anywhere. The shop didn't appear to have anyone in it, so maybe they were in the main house? Either way, at that point I became more or less disgusted and uncomfortable and left. I wouldn't go back even for free plants because Oakland is hell on earth to get in and out of most days.
