How does my package go from my local distribution center, Lehigh valley, PA, to MAINE instead of my address?????? Highly incompetent...

I’ve had several packages marked “delivered” but they never were. They never helped me and told me to go to the police instead. Now I’m too afraid to buy anything online that doesn’t have any other shipping service but usps. I’d rather be run over by the mail truck then ever have one of my packages on it ever again.
