I went in to make a return of two cosmetic items. One of which I had opened and tested out once, and one was new. The woman in the cosmetics department that I found said they could only do exchanges on opened items (which online it clearly states you can get a full refund for unopened or gently used items). I ordered the items online, and they weren't something they carried in the store, so she asked me if I had bought them through Macy's as if I were stupid enough to return something to a different store. Then she begrudgingly made an exception to the exchange rule and told me not to do this again. (I'm assuming this is a made-up policy, and she realized it wouldn't work with the items I had.) The items I bought came with a foil sample packet that I forgot even came with it. So when I didn't have it on me, I was chastised again. I understand that you're supposed to return the free gift with the purchase, but she was pretty condescending about it. I was never rude or sarcastic or anything, so I don't know what the issue was. I didn't appreciate being hit with a policy that contradicts what is stated on the Macy's website. I was going to look around at the makeup to replace what I had returned afterward, but after that encounter I had no inclination to shop there.
Still prices higher than other comparable stores. Clean and good selection.
